What Is Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test?
This a test for all AKC-registered dogs.  With a bit of training, lots of love, and plenty of praise, every dog-and-handler team can succeed.  For more information on AKC registration in the Canine Pet Partners or Purebred Alternative Listing, visit this link

Who Can Participate?

CGC is open to all dogs — purebred and mixed breed.
There are no age minimums or limits, so puppies, adults, and senior dogs are all welcome.
Because yes—you can teach an old dog new tricks!

The CGC program is an expert-developed training and testing program designed to help dogs gain foundational manners and help owners learn responsible handling skills. The CGC test consists of 10 key skills that reflect real-world good behavior at home and in the community.

The 10 CGC Skills

The Canine Good Citizen test evaluates how well your dog performs in these areas:

1.  Accepting a friendly stranger
2.  Sitting politely for petting
3.  Appearance and grooming
4.  Walking on a loose leash
5.  Walking through a crowd
6.  Sit, down, and stay
7.  Coming when called
8.  Reaction to another dog
9.  Reaction to distractions
10. Supervised separation
